We often talk about caffeine in tea, but there’s another useful molecule we don’t talk about as often: it’s L-theanine. Present in all teas, but more concentrated in sweet leafy teas that are shaded (covered) before picking: gyokuro, warakabusetya and V matcha.
This amino acid has many benefits especially for the brain: it relaxes, improves sleep quality, relieves anxiety, protects brain cells from destruction, reduces high blood pressure and the risk of stroke. In combination with caffeine, L-theanine promotes concentration and improves memory.
